Construction on West Jackson Avenue is scheduled to begin on March 10, 2025. This work will involve the installation of ADA compliant sidewalks between 13th Street and 17th Street. West Jackson Avenue will be widened from 9th Street to 13th Street, which will interrupt the ability to use West Jackson Avenue as usual.
Residents should take note of the following:
- Mailboxes will be removed and reinstalled in the strip between the new curb and sidewalk. Only mailboxes and posts will be reinstalled. Residents should remove any materials on or around existing mailboxes they do not wish to be disposed of before work begins.
- After the mailboxes are removed, residents will have to pick up mail from the Post Office at 203 E. Avenue D, Lovington, NM 88260 until the mailboxes are reinstalled.
- Fences in the Right-Of-Way will be removed and disposed of. Any fencing materials that residents wish to save in the Right-Of-Way have to be removed before work begins.
- Work on W. Jackson Ave will be done in sections. Sections under construction will be closed to through traffic. Residents should take road closures into consideration when making travel plans.
- Residents will not have access to their driveways for an estimated 2-to-4 weeks duration during the widening of W. Jackson Ave between 9th Street and 13th Street. Residents should plan to park on side streets or back alleys during this time.
